Marlborough School Alums Forming Junior Charity League in LA

Recent Marlborough grads, working to re-establish the Junior Charity League in the Los Angeles area, held their first philanthropic event recently at The Westwood Transitional Village, a residential housing facility that provides support for homeless families to help them stabilize and acquire the skills needed for independent living. The young women of the Junior Charity League spent the morning working with the children on creating a number of arts and crafts projects.

“The Junior Charity League is a fun and social way for girls to bridge their involvement in the charity work they started when they were students working with their moms to the time they have daughters of their own,” explained organizer of the local effort Katharine Bohlmann, who graduated from Marlborough in 2015 and is currently studying sport management at the University of Michigan.

Bohlmann and a small group of recent Marlborough alumni are planning to organize several activities during their college breaks and over the summer, similar to the event at the Westwood Transitional Village. Other high school grads across the city who are interested are also welcome to become members.

The Junior Charity League’s purpose is to assist the Los Angeles Founder Chapter (National Charity League) in its philanthropic endeavors. The mission of the National Charity League is to initiate and encourage charitable endeavors, and to foster the mother-daughter relationship in social, cultural, and philanthropic training.

The National Charity League is a nonprofit corporation composed of Patroness and Ticktocker groups. Once the daughters complete the Ticktocker program, they are eligible to join the Junior Charity League. Other young women between the ages of 18 and 45 who have an interest in philanthropic and charitable causes are also eligible to join.

The Junior Charity League is reactivating its presence in the Los Angeles area and is looking for young women who wish to be a part of this organization. The League plans on approximately two to three charity events a year, with the goal of increasing its work over the next several years.
