Film: Nomadland

May 26 @ 7:30 pm - 9:15 pm

$5 – $10

Following several sublime neorealist works, including Songs My Brother Taught Me (2015) and The Rider (2017), Beijing-born filmmaker Chloé Zhao teamed up with Frances McDormand to produce an adaptation of Jessica Bruder’s nonfiction book about America’s post-recession van-dwellers. McDormand stars as the recently widowed Fern who prefers seasonal employment and life on the road over the permanence of homeownership. Nominated in six categories, including Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing for Zhao, McDormand took home a statue for Best Actress and Zhao nabbed Academy Awards for Best Picture and Directing, making her the first Asian woman to win the latter.

DIRECTED/WRITTEN BY: Chloé Zhao. WITH: Frances McDormand, David Strathairn, Linda May, Swankie. 2020. 107 min. USA. Color. English. DCP.
