Film: Starcrash

July 5 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Enjoy a bevy of robots, 3-eyed aliens, Mumu monsters & wonderfully cheezy lightsaber rip-off battles in the courtyard of PRS under the sky!

STARCRASH starring Caroline Munro and Marjoe Gortner

Presented in association with dublab

What better place to enjoy a bevy of robots, 3-eyed aliens, Mumu monsters and wonderfully cheezy lightsaber rip-off battles than in the courtyard of PRS under the beautiful Los Angeles sky?! Join us for our first-ever open air courtyard Summer screening series at PRS, featuring three delirious cosmic confections: STARCRASH (1978) starring Caroline Munro and Marjoe Gortner on 7/5, BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (1980) produced by the late great Roger Corman on 8/2, and the surreal Croatian sci-fi / fantasy VISITORS FROM THE ARKANA GALAXY on 9/6 – all projected on the outside of the classic mid-century PRS Auditorium! Prior to the screenings, a DJ will be spinning cosmic music in the courtyard, so come early to grab a spot and enjoy the sounds!

STARCRASH (Italy, 1978, Shout! Factory/AGFA, 92 min.)

STARCRASH is simply the best STAR WARS knockoff. For starters, Italian director Luigi Cozzi was only vaguely interested in ripping off Lucas. For every $100k less they had in budget, they added colored lights — making for an eye-popping, swirling universe more resembling a lava lamp than a Flash Gordon serial. There’s also stop-motion Harryhausen monsters, sword-fighting clockwork machines and other devastating intergalactic gibberish.

Then there’s the cast: former Bond girl Caroline Munro (THE SPY WHO LOVED ME) leads a motley crew including child evangelical / scam artist / hippie icon Marjoe Gortner as a perma-permed Luke Skywalker clone, Oscar-winning Christopher Plummer as The Emperor of the Galaxy (who refuses to act), David Hasselhoff (“Baywatch”) and creepy MANIAC Joe Spinell. – Film & synopsis courtesy of AGFA / American Genre Film Archive.

About dublab:

dublab is a Los Angeles-based, community-supported internet radio station and creative collective dedicated to the growth of positive music, arts, and culture. Founded in 1999, dublab has been broadcasting since the “dot-com era” with the mission to share forward-thinking, freeform radio with an international audience. dublab’s programming has since expanded to include the production of original art exhibits, films, television, events, and community education projects as well as broadcast on affiliate stations in Germany, Japan, Spain, and Brazil.

Each month, dublab showcases over 180 radio shows from some of the world’s most talented DJs, musicians, journalists, and artists. Each show is distinct and entirely freeform: we take pride in empowering our DJs to freely play the music that best shares their individual story. Beyond broadcast, dublab produces and hosts several multimedia projects and exhibits each year, most often made possible by the support of public and foundation project grants. Through local events, international broadcasts, and collaborative multimedia projects, dublab has helped define and connect the next wave of arts, music, and culture across the Los Angeles and international communities.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets / mats / cushions for more comfortable courtyard seating – there will also be limited seating in folding chairs.
