Landis has been a friendly fixture on Larchmont Boulevard since 1990 when Edie Frere and Chris Wolfus moved the original Landis Department Store, which began across the boulevard on the west side of the street, to a set of stores under the green awning on the east side. Many locals will remember the early days some 20 years ago when Landis General Store served as the mini-emporium of all kinds of goods including toys, sewing and office supplies, cards, and kitchen items. At one point, you could thread your way through the interconnected stores via tight back doors between the stores and many a parent would lose a young child exploring this hidden ‘back route.’
To many, Landis Gifts & Stationery owner Edie Frere is also the unofficial ambassador of Larchmont Boulevard. In her role as one of the Board of Directors of the Larchmont Boulevard Association (LBA) she connects merchants in the shopping district with one another, and seems to know most of the customers shopping the street. “We wanted to try something new this year for our friends and customers,” Frere told the Buzz.” We used to put items on sale the day after Christmas, but decided to stay closed and give our staff a well-needed break. Instead, we’re offering a store-wide insider’s sale this week.”
All in-stock items will be 40% off, including Simon Pearce glass, cards and stationery by the likes of Rifle Press, Vera Wang, R Nichols and William Arthur, as well as Christmas items.
