A Great Use for All Those Take-Out Utensil and Condiment Packs

Well, it’s finally the weekend. And for many folks, that means at least one take-out or home-delivery meal somewhere along the way.  Chances are that meal comes with a set of plastic-wrapped utensils (even if you didn’t request it, which isn’t supposed to happen but usually does), and some small condiment packets to complement your food.  And chances may be even better that you don’t often use the utensils or condiments (especially when food is delivered to your home, where you already have such things)…so you currently have a huge pile, drawer, or bag full of the unused items – things you don’t really want to throw away, but which you’ll also likely never use.

If that’s the case, then LA Sanitation & Environment has a great idea for you.  Just bring your collection of unopened utensil and condiment packets to one of its facilities between Monday, August 29 and Friday, October 28, and the department will donate them to the Midnight Mission and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank for people in need.

Donations will be accepted on weekdays (M-F) during the drive, not including Monday, September 5 (Labor Day) or Monday, October 10 (Indigenous Peoples Day), between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., at the following locations:

East Valley District Yard
11050 Pendleton St.
Sun Valley, CA 91352

West Valley District Yard
8840 Vanalden Ave.
Northridge, CA 91234

North Central District Yard
452 San Fernando Rd.
Los Angeles, CA 90031

West LA District Yard
2027 Stoner Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90025

South LA District Yard
786 S. Mission Rd.
Los Angeles, CA 90023

Harbor District Yard
1400 N. Gaffey St.
San Pedro, CA 90731

Public Works Building
1149 S. Broadway – Lobby
Los Angeles, CA 90015

It’s a super easy way to help, and if you feel like collecting items from a few friends, neighbors, and/or co-workers before you go – to make the trip even more worth while – that would be a great idea, too.
