Driving past LACMA, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art one wonders what is happening. Is there any art there? Will there be? Do any buildings hold anything?

Well, let me tell you there are a few buildings that are completely intact and they hold wonderful adventures. After all LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States, with a collection of more than 147,000 objects.

Here are two exhibitions that are currently up and one that will be up soon:

Barbara Kruger: Thinking of You. I Mean Me. I Mean You.

In the Broad Contemporary Art Museum (BCAM) building there is a spectacular show by the artist Barbara Kruger, a Los Angeles-based artist who teaches at UCLA. The show spans four decades of her work. Barbara Kruger’s medium is letters and words and expressions of deep and truthful messages, along with great wit. She is a cultural critic who informs, teaches and definitely makes us think. The layout of each room is breathtaking. She is a primo artist. This show is not to be missed. The exhibition is on until July 17, 2022.

Lee Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse

In the Resnick Pavilion, this show positions the actual work of McQueen (London 1969 – 2010) within art history and examines the interdisciplinary works that inspired his career. There are nearly 200 objects and more than 70 examples of his costumes. The exhibition presents a case study of McQueen’s methods and influences. It runs until October 9, 2022.

The noteworthy upcoming exhibition, which will run June 12 – October 30, 2022 in the Resnick Pavilion, is Archive of the World: Art and Imagination in Spanish America, 1500-1800. This is the first exhibition of LACMA’s notable holdings of Spanish American art. It will feature approximately 90 works, including several recent acquisitions. The exhibition emphasizes the creative power of Spanish America.

So now you know there is a lot to see at LACMA. Please visit lacma.org for more information.
