CD13 Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell Leads Neighborhood Clean up from Robert Burns Park

 

Volunteers and neighbors gathered at Robert L. Burns Park on a rainy Saturday morning to meet CD13 Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell and his staff for a neighborhood cleanup. This is the first clean up event O’Farrell has organized for the Windsor Square and Larchmont Village neighborhoods, which became part of his district earlier this month after the city council redistricting process. Conducting a neighborhood clean up is one way O’Farrell said he likes to demonstrate his office’s commitment to constituent services.

“We really work to be a very responsive office,” O’Farrell told the Buzz. “We do make things happen, like neighborhood cleanliness, which I think is very important.”

O’Farrell told Paul Nankivell, a resident of Larchmont Village who dropped by to help out, “local is where it’s at,” he said. “People really care about where they live and that’s what motivated me to take my first job in public service with City Councilmen Eric Garcetti.”

O’Farrell shared how he got started working for an elected official. After months of interviews, he was offered two jobs; one on the city level and one working in a Congressional office. O’Farrell said he chose the job working in the city for the City Councilmember Eric Garretti in 2002 because he knew the neighborhoods and he thought he could really be effective. He added that local issues interested him more than the working on a national level.

 

 

O’Farrell lead volunteers in bright yellow rain jackets and city staff with sanitation trucks around the neighborhood for what he called a light cleaning – picking up abandoned Christmas trees, palm fronds and assorted trash left the curb in the Larchmont Village neighborhood north of the park.
