Celebrate Mother’s Day Tonight with Poetry

Tonight Chevalier’s Books is having a poetry reading at 7 p.m. on Zoom, in celebration of Mother’s Day, with four wonderful poets – Bridgette Bianca, Liz González, Gail Newman, and Lynne Thompson, our very own LA Poet Laureate. We got to listen to Thompson read some of her work during a Zoom talk for the Ebell of Los Angeles during for Poetry month in April.

Poetry is really quite wonderful when it is read aloud. And there is something even more wonderful about hearing it from the poet directly.

Chevalier’s Books knows its poets, and these poets promise not to disappoint.

  • Bridgette Bianca is a poet and professor from South Central Los Angeles. Her work as a writer and an educator seeks to serve the people and moments most forget or ignore. Her first book of poetry be/trouble, was released by Writ Large Press/The Accomplices in February 2020.
  • Liz González, creative nonfiction writer and poet, was born and raised in the San Bernardino Valley. She teaches creative writing at the UCLA Extension Writers’s Program.

She was co-founder of Room: A Women’s Literary Journal and has edited two books of children’s poetry: C is for California and Dear Earth. A collection of her poetry, One World, was published by Moon Tide Press.
  • And, Lynne Thompson was appointed Poet Laureate for the City of Los Angeles in 2021.
