Finally! Â Since I live close to Koreatown, my westside friends always seem to be asking me: What are the best restaurants to check out in Koreatown? There are literally hundreds of restaurants, it seems every block on the main thoroughfares has at least a couple dining spots. And yes, we have our family favorite that is an easy walk away, Kang Nam. But to tell you the truth I have not done enough exploration of the area to know what’s really out there and I’m always tongue-tied when I get the dining in K-Town question.
Thankfully, LA Eater has come to my rescue, and published their Guide to the Best Korean Restaurants in Koreatown. I’ve bookmarked it on my smartphone for that time, day or evening, when the craving for a hot bowl of broth, piled with noodles and beef and a few good hot chunks of kimchi just has to be found.
The Guide shares their list of the top 26 Korean spots, from the expensive high-end beef restaurant to the mom ‘n pop joint that serves up just one or two dishes really well. It even offers suggestions on the best dishes at each spot, so if you’re up for trying new things and don’t have a Korean friend along for dinner, there are tips on what to order.
At the top of the list is Soban Korean on Olympic Blvd at Norton which Eater describes as “arguably one of the most impressive (food wise) Korean restaurants in the country” and is a very unpretentious, small corner location and walkable for many of us living below Wilshire. Park’s Barbeque on Vermont is one of the premier barbecue restaurants known for its high quality meats, and Dan Sung Sa on 6th near Berendo is best for small bites and “transports you to a back alley joint in Seoul.”
Heard that the Boiling Crab is delicious and fun and hope to check it out with the family…
there are so many places i’ve yet to try in ktown! but the ones i have (and loved) are in the “koreatown” section of my restaurant list: http://theactorsdiet.com/food/l-a-area-eats-2/l-a-area-eats/
