Today was one of those really weird LA weather days. Dense fog blanketed much of the city this morning.  The fog was so thick in  my neighborhood, I could hardly see in front of me as a I drove my daughter to her bus stop near Third Street School. Naturally, she asked and I also wondered, what causes the fog?  Recalling distant memories of a college meteorology class, that was supposed to be an easy science credit, (it was not!) I said it was the result of the cold air meeting the warm ground.
Then I wondered, is that right? A quick bit of research on the internet, I learned that fog is really just a cloud at ground level.  According to wikipedia, Fog begins to form when water vapor condenses into tiny liquid water droplets in the air. In our neighborhood, the water is evaporating from all the lawns nearby and the golf course at Wilshire Country Club that are still soggy from all the rain last week.
Needless to say, it made for a very eerie and memorable morning as you can see from these photos.
 
 
I had the same theory for fog, updating my notes now. Yea foggy weather makes for interesting photos too, always great to have a camera along. Especially like the ones with the street lamps on, has an interesting mood.
Patty, what great pictures! I saw it in person, of course, but these photos give the fog another dimension somehow — I loved them!
