Free Donuts and Fun for Holey Grail Donuts’ Grand Opening Saturday

Holey Grail co-founder Nile Dreiling and his mom, Satya Kline, who is also part of the family-run operation.

If you haven’t already been, (though we know lots of you have, judging from the lines we’ve seen) Saturday is your day to stop in and check out the newest eatery on Larchmont, Holey Grail Donuts at 148 N. Larchmont Blvd.

“We are going to be open from 7 a.m.to 9 p.m. on Saturday, serving everyone a free donut as our way of saying come in and try a donut!” Nile Dreiling told us when we stopped in last week to see how the business was doing. The shop quietly opened a week or so ago and began serving its unique taro-based donuts while training staff and doing all the behind-the-scenes work it takes to get a food operation up to speed. Dreiling told us everything has been going well and they are really excited for Saturday’s grand opening.

In celebration of its opening, Holey Grail Donuts will offer a free Original Sin donut, one of its most popular flavors, featuring maple, Hawaiian vanilla bean, and sea salt. With a purchase of donuts, guests will receive a complimentary donut. There will be live music from DJ Blk Soap, who will be spinning vinyl from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Holey Grail was founded by Dreiling and his sister Hanna in 2018 in Kauai, Hawaii. The pair started serving hot taro donuts from a food truck. Late last year, they opened their first stateside shop in Santa Monica.

“We are the only ones with a taro base and we use less than one third of the ingredients you’ll find in a typical donut,” Dreiling told the Buzz when we first met.

The donuts are prepared-to-order in organic, fair trade coconut oil, and garnished with a variety of seasonally changing flavors, inspired by Holey Grail’s Hawaii roots as well as local LA purveyors.

Holey Grail operates like a small, family run company. Dreiling’s sister is still based in Hawaii and his mom, also based in LA, is helping with the operations side of the business. They have created more than 60 flavors since the company’s founding, with ingredient integrity as the cornerstone, while maintaining the satisfaction, nostalgia and texture of what a donut truly should be.

“We focus on the ingredients so you know exactly what you are eating; we make our donuts with ingredient you use at home,” said Dreiling. Some of those ingredients are also for sale in the shop, as well as merchandise featuring Holey Grail’s signature graphics.

“The best donut is a hot fresh donut,” said Dreiling.

We agree! We sampled Dreiling’s personal favorite, the Original Sin donut that will be offered to guests who come to the opening on Saturday. Instead of coffee, we also sampled the chocolate milk, made with homemade cashew milk (made daily) and small batch chocolate (bars are available for sale separately). It was all pretty amazingly delicious. But don’t take our word for it – stop by on Saturday and taste for yourself!
