The Hancock Park Homeowners Association is helping to form CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) groups for our Hancock Park neighborhood. The “teams” will supplement residents’ ability to respond after a disaster.
There will be four response teams led by four neighborhood residents, Clif Lord, Martin Beck, Tim Paulson, and Benjamin Goldfarb. Mr. Goldfarb is a Sworn Member of the LAFD CERT Call Out Team and Battalion 5 Coordinator (Battalion 5 & Fire Station #27, and will help get us organized. Each team captain will cover a specific area or “Quad”.
Quadrant #1: Melrose to Beverly and Rossmore to Wilcox
Quadrant #2: Melrose to Beverly and Seward to Highland
Quadrant #3: Beverly to 3rd and Rossmore to Highland
Quadrant #4: 3rd to Wilshire and Rossmore to Highland
The hope is for each group to be able to provide immediate assistance to victims in their area, organize spontaneous volunteers who have not had the training, and collect disaster intelligence that will assist professional responders with prioritization and allocation of resources following a disaster.
Stay tuned for more information!
CERT training registration is open for all residents. Click here for more information on upcoming CERT training at Fire Station 82 on starting March 7.
Also everyone should have an “Emergency Backpack.” You can make your own or buy one ready made. Click here to learn more about what you should have in your “Emergency Backpack.” Or here, to read recommendations from the New York Times Wirecutter team.
