226 South Rimpau Blvd – First time on the market in 60 years.

6This is a rare opportunity to purchase a lovely family home with sweeping views of the Wilshire Country Club Golf Course. First time on the market in 60 years, the home is nestled on a quiet cul-de-sac and features large terraces with sweeping views, five bedrooms and five bathrooms in over 4,600 square feet.  The home needs updating, but has huge potential. The property is identified as a non contributing within an HPOZ.

Clyde Von der Ahe, Jr, a member of the Von der Ahe family that opened the original Von’s Grocery Store in Los Angeles in 1906, told us that his parents built the house around 1955.

“The builder was a guy by the name of Robert Stanhope.  My Dad’s father and his partner George Merrill were the owners and developers of that entire cul de sac on Rimpau.  My father had his choice of parcel and purchased the lot where the house sits, from his father.

The architect was a man by the name of Laundon Bergonstrom. Originally, the house was not very large, but as our family grew so did the house. In the beginning it was a one story with a basement.  As time went by, it became a two story when the basement was converted to a family room, bedroom and bathroom.   The kitchen was also expanded, with the addition of a dining room, maid and bathroom.  As years went by, and the family grew, the third story with the bedroom and bath were added to accomodate the rounding out of this 10 person family.  There my parents spent 63 years and raised their eight children. It is a great house.”
