Homeless Encampment on Wilshire Blvd. in Brookside

Residents are trying to get assistance for the person living in this small encampment on Wilshire Blvd., near Longwood Avenue in Brookside. This photo was taken on April 8, 2021.

Several months ago, a small homeless encampment appeared on the south side of Wilshire Blvd., near Longwood Avenue. (The photo above was taken in early April.) Since then, residents of Hancock Park and Brookside have reported there have been several fires and a man has been frequently sighted walking the area without any clothing. In addition, as of this week, neighbors report there is a new encampment on the north side of Wilshire in the same area, on the John Burroughs School property, at the playground fence line.

In emails shared with the Buzz, residents say they have reported the sites to LA-HOP , and asked the City Council District 4 office for help in getting outreach workers to assist the unhoused residents.   John Burroughs Middle School officials have also requested assistance, and CD4 Field Manager Su Lee has told residents that she has requested outreach workers visit the two sites weekly.

For more information on homelessness in our area, this evening at 6 p.m. City Councilmember Nithy Raman is hosting a “Conversation on Homelessness” with John Maceri, CEO of the People Concern, one of the county’s largest social services agencies working to address the challenges of homelessness and domestic violence.
