For those of us who love Girl Scout cookies (Thin Mints are a personal favorite of mine), it’s a happy time! For the next several months, local Girl Scouts will be taking orders and delivering cookies as part of the annual Girl Scout Cookie Season.
Ella Wolovitch, a 12-year-old who lives in the Ridgewood Wilton Neighborhood, loves Tagalongs. She also told us about a new cookie this year, called Adventurefuls, “indulgent brownie-inspired cookies with caramel flavored crème and a hint of sea salt,” according to the official order form.
The Larchmont Charter School 7th grader told us she really enjoys cookie season because it’s fun to meet people when she and her friends are “tabling” and selling cookies. Plus her small troop gets to decide how to use the funds they raise from the cookies. Last year they were able to take a trip to Coronado and work on a beach clean up.
The Girl Scout Cookie Program provides an important ingredient for leadership by helping girls develop five key skills: Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People Skills and Business Ethics, according to Rebecca Hutchinson at the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, who also lives in the neighborhood.
This month, participating Girl Scouts like Ella are setting up their cookie businesses. We heard from our neighbor, Ruby, a third grader at St. James with the most compelling and adorable message.
“Participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program has long-lasting benefits,” underscores Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles Chief Executive Officer Theresa Edy Kiene. “This year especially, I know our cookiepreneurs are excited to be practicing their skills and thrilled to be back to more in-person connections with their customers.”

Beginning February 27, cookie lovers will be able to purchase cookies to be shipped directly to their homes, by entering their zip code into the Girl Scout Cookie Finder. This link can also be used to find a local booth (cookie boothing begins February 10), to purchase cookies and/or to donate cookies for local community causes.
