Starting today, the famed Tomatomania!, which some say is the world’s largest tomato seedling sale, featuring hundreds of varieties, is popping up at the Tapia Bros. Farm Stand in Encino. But don’t panic, it’s not like last year when the pandemic locked everything down just as they were trying to get seedlings to market and demand skyrocketed. Tomatomania! plans to be at Tapia Brothers for 3-4 weeks this year, so you can shop safely.
“Having considered guidelines for open-air stores, we are excited to launch as planned on Friday, March 19, and then will extend our stay onsite for 3-4 weeks, to spread out the traffic flow and offer you quiet shopping times at our flagship location,” wrote Tomatomania! in an email to customers. They recommend coming in the afternoons when they expect fewer people. For serious fans, if you wear your Tomatomania! t-shirt, you’ll receive 10% off your purchase (at this sale only).
Tapia Bros. plans to be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three days of this opening weekend (even if it rains, but there’s no rain in the forecast), and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  for the rest of the Tomatomania! team’s stay.
In the past Tomatomania! has offered on-site classes, too…but this year you can watch a class founder Scott Daigre did with Fine Gardening magazine online.
