Jane Gilman, the founder and former publisher of the Larchmont Chronicle, who retired in 2015, has started another career. Gilman told us she is going to back to work to assist another organization she founded, the Larchmont Boulevard Association.
“Although I retired as publisher of the Larchmont Chronicle six years ago, my fondness for Larchmont Boulevard has not diminished,” wrote Gilman in an email to the Buzz. “I am pleased that the Larchmont Boulevard Association has approved my position as executive director. My goals are to recruit new members and retain current members.”
Gilman said she plans to engage members with more activities like mixers and to use social media and special promotions to bring more energy and attention to the street’s local business community.
“As director I will also handle public relations, work with city officials and engage community support,” she added.
LBA President John Winther told the Buzz that he approached Gilman about helping infuse more energy into the LBA and supporting the work of the all-volunteer leadership of the association.
“I approached Jane with the idea of getting involved and helping us bring back the energy that used to be on Larchmont before COVID,” Winther told the Buzz. “Since Jane founded the LBA and the Windsor Square Hancock Park Historical Society, and knows our community so well, I thought it would be wonderful to have her come back and work with us. She has the institutional knowledge of our community and will work with businesses in the village and on North Larchmont Blvd. as well.”
The Larchmont Boulevard Association was founded in 1965 by Gilman and her business partner Dawne Goodwin to promote “our special village within our big city.” The LBA has organized many of the activities we associate with Larchmont’s charm and neighborliness. This includes the annual Larchmont Family Fair, on the Sunday before Halloween each year. LBA leaders are working on plans to bring the fair back after a 2-year hiatus caused by the pandemic.
