Internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Tamir Hendelman plays the Wilshire Ebell with his trio on Saturday, April 13th giving an LA audience a world-class jazz club experience right here in Hancock Park. The trio will perform in the Ebell Clubhouse in an intimate, club-like atmosphere.
Considered to be one of the most accomplished jazz pianists of this era, Hendelman has not only performed with the likes of Barbara Streisand and Natalie Cole, but writes and performs his own jazz originals that send the music careening off the page into an audio feast to the ears. This guy can swing on the piano like nobody’s business: check out the video of Hendelman performing “Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams” below.
Hendelman grew up in Tel Aviv and moved with his family to Los Angeles when he was 12. At age 14 he won Yamaha’s national keyboard competition. He studied at the Tanglewood Institute and received a Bachelor of Music Composition degree from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, then returned to L.A. to establish himself.
“In school I majored in classical composition but I already had a love for jazz. I fell in love with jazz piano and began to work with vocalists doing the Great American Songbook, getting into Brazilian music and forming my own trio.”
In addition to playing with is own trio, Hendelman performs regularly with the Jeff Hamilton Trio and Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. These stints, Hendelman says, follow “the tradition of the Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown trios: great jazz repertoire with a unique twist. They almost create the feel and dynamics of a big band within a trio. This makes each song into more of an adventure and experience.”
This very special concert at the Ebell fits within an extremely busy touring schedule; Hendelman is on the road about a third of the year with upcoming dates scheduled in Europe, Israel and Japan.
Tickets for the April 13th event are $30/Ebell Members and $35 general public and can be pre-purchased online or call 323-931-1277 x131 for tickets or with questions.Jazz Night with the Tamir Hendelman Trio Sat., April 13, 2013 Wilshire Ebell of Los Angeles 741 S Lucerne Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90005 Doors Open 7:30 pm, Show starts at 8 pm Cash bar, free parking.
