Judy Garland 100th Birthday Gala and Fragrance Reveal at The Historic Ebell of Los Angeles

Judy Garland’s Centennial Birthday Celebration and Official Fragrance Reveal will take place at The Ebell of Los Angeles on Friday, June 10; a costume and memorabilia exhibit open to the public will be on display through the weekend.

This weekend, The Ebell of Los Angeles will be transformed into a monument to Judy Garland, featuring a gala centennial birthday celebration and the reveal of a new fragrance by Vincenzo Spinnato, celebrating Garland’s profound legacy. The Ebell was selected as the site because Garland was discovered there, performing with her sisters, by MGM producer George Sidney.

“We searched high and low for the perfect place to showcase Judy Garland’s 100th birthday and fragrance reveal,” said chemist and fragrance designer Vincenzo Spinnato. “The Ebell is the perfect place! In fact, when I stood on the same stage where Ms. Garland was discovered, I had goosebumps.” Regarding the event, Spinnato says, “We want guests attending this gala to enjoy many Judy Garland experiences throughout the night – experiences reminiscent of her past, modern present and future legacy.”

The gala celebration organized by ZED INK, a woman-owned event production business based in Venice, will feature rare Garland costumes and memorabilia, special celebrity guests and the reveal  of a new fragrance created to honor Garland.

The fragrance, officially called JUDY–A Garland Fragrance by Vincenzo Spinnato, has been in the works for more than a year.

The Garland estate tapped Spinnato to develop the fragrance. He has been working with her children, doing a deep dive into her life and lifestyle, learning about her personal taste, what she like to wear, etc. In January Entertainment Tonight featured Spinnato with Garland’s daughters Lorna Luft and Liza Minnelli discussing the creation of the fragrance.

Spinnato told us he started with Ma Griffe perfume, worn by Garland, as a base. Adding scents of rose, orchid and coriander, Spinnato explained the process of adding various ingredients or notes to the life cycle of the fragrance.

“There are top notes, middle notes and bottom notes,” explained Spinnato. “The top are the two to five minutes when you first encounter the scent, the middle or hard notes are roughly the next 20 minutes or so and the bottom notes are the long term dry down notes, completing the life cycle of the fragrance.”

The fragrance is designed to be unisex, celebrating Garland’s inclusivity and support for gay rights.

As part of the evening’s festivities, a one-time limited edition bottle of the fragrance will be available to fans.

“The special, 100th Birthday Celebration Bottle of the Judy fragrance will be available on June 10, 2022, Ms. Garland’s 100th Birthday. That is our gift to Judy Garland,” chemist Spinnato told the Buzz.

After the event, the fragrance will be available in retail stores nationwide starting in September. That is the family’s and Ms. Garland’s gift to her fans and to the general population at large, explained Spinnato. A limited number of the 100th Birthday Celebration bottles can be found exclusively on the JudyGarlandFragrance.com website after June 10.

While the gala celebration is invitation-only, Spinnato’s team has also sponsored Scott Hedley’s costume and memorabilia exhibit, which will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday. Click here for information on the costume exhibit.
