This week residents of Hancock Park have started posting yard signs in their front yards and parkways reminding neighbors to wear masks and keep a safe distance. The yard signs are timely as Los Angeles is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 infection rates and wearing a mask and keeping social distance has been shown to be very effective in slowing the spread of the corona virus.
Getting the yard signs up was a group effort of the Hancock Park Block Captains with lots of neighbors lending help, explained Cindy Chvatal Keane, Hancock Park Homeowners Association President. The idea for the signs was discussed at the last Block Captains meeting, held on Zoom in May. McCadden resident and block captain Shondell Spiegel created the design, and Hancock Park resident Edie Freré recommended a local printer – Bob Hart at Design Printing – who gave the neighborhood a very good price on making 200 signs. All the signs were distributed earlier this week and the neighborhood is thinking of ordering more.
“The signs have been well received by everyone in the community. They are nice looking and it’s hard to argue with the message,” Chvatal Keane told the Buzz. “It think it helps remind people too. We notice more people are wearing masks.”
Buzz contributor Dan Kegel’s informal surveys people wearing masks on Larchmont support that observation too.
The yard signs are in front yards and in the parkways on busy streets like 4th street and June Street where there are lots of walkers and bike riders.
Please order more “mask” signs and let us know how to get them. Great idea!
