The  2021 HUGEL-AIR PREMIA LA Open, Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament is returning to Wilshire Country Club starting next week, April 19-24. The tournament returns to Wilshire after skipping last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the pandemic is receding, it’s definitely not over. As a result, organizers told the Buzz they cannot permit any spectators at the course, but the tournament will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel and online.
The normal festivities and community events around the tournament have also been shelved due to the pandemic, but tournament director David Tucker said he hopes that next year all that can be brought back. For now, members of the club are super excited to have the historic club featured on television as the site of the  tournament. A very limited number of members will be able to participate in fundraising event for LPGA charities, but all must comply with strict COVID-19 protocols issued by the county. The extra safety protocols this year add to the challenge of presenting the tournament ,even though there won’t be any spectators. Still, said Tucker, spirits are high around the club and the excitement is building as the tournament approaches.
For those of who are novices to golf, watching the broadcast can be more informative, but there’s nothing like walking the course and seeing high-level athletes in person. Hopefully, next year!
