Landis Labyrinth Toys is closing soon, adding to the stretch of empty store fronts on Larchmont. Unable to work out a lease, store owner Devony Wolfus told us next week is the last week the store will be open. If you want to shop her 50% off sale, the store hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. This week the store is open Wednesday and Thursday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., and closed Monday and Tuesday.
Wolfus said she’s not sure what’s next for her business, but she promised to keep us posted as she’s considering how to stay in the business of bringing toys to kids.
As we reported earlier, Landis Labyrinth is a tenant in the former Lipson building, now owned by Christina Development. All the leases for current tenants expire at the end of December. Tenants have told the Buzz they are being encouraged to leave as soon as possible, however, so the new owners can begin what spokesperson Liza Killian described as “repairs” on the building. Tenants report the work is expected to be more extensive, however, requiring all power and water to be turned off.
Larchmont was busier this weekend when we shopped at the Larchmont Farmers Market, and it almost seemed like business as usual at that time. But by Monday afternoon, the street was quiet again, with plenty of parking. Shop owners we talked to said they are worried about all the vacancies, but they also hope they can hang in there until the pandemic subsides and the economy recovers. Retailers on the street have been struggling since the pandemic forced the closure of all but eateries on the street. Retailers are now open again, but many find the necessary foot traffic lacking.
