Local Filmmakers Screen “The Selling” Tonight at Egyptian Theater

Etta Devine and Gabriel Diani. Diani wrote the script for this film in his apartment, formerly occupied by filmmaker Alexander Payne when he wrote Election.

Local filmmakers Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine will be screening their film “The Selling” tonight, Monday Oct 22nd at the Egyptian Theater. The independent feature, from an original screenplay by St. Andrews Square resident Diani, is a story about ghosts, demonic possession, and real estate.

Diani and Devine are an award-winning comedy duo who live on Manhattan Place and are often compared (favorably) to classic comedy teams like Nichols & May, and Burns & Allen. They performed at comedy festivals all over the country for years before refocusing their energy on creating films and online content. Diani wrote, produced and stars in “The Selling.”  Devine produced and stars in it as well.

The supernatural comedy could well become a cult classic, says local realtor and friend of the filmmakers, Patti Carroll. “The film is clever and very amusing. A perfect Halloween film,” Carroll told the Buzz. The film was shot in a mere fourteen days, using locations in West Adams and on North Larchmont.

“The Selling” was directed by Emily Lou and stars Gabriel Diani, Janet Varney, Jonathan Klein, Etta Devine, Nancy Lenehan (also a local resident), and Barry Bostwick. Diani also served as Writer/Producer on the project. Tickets can be purchased online, and a few comp tickets are still available by email.
