Women, women-made wines, and films were the subjects of the Look What SHE Did! Fall Gathering to thank sponsors, held on Wednesday evening, October 26, 2022.
“Look What SHE Did! was founded as a non-profit organization to inspire women and girls to greatness by making short (under 4-minute) films of one woman telling the story of another woman she admires, whose story may never have been told and whose accomplishments may never have been recognized,” Hancock Park resident and Board Chair, Janna Bodek Harris, told the Buzz.
The beautiful event was held at the home of Windsor Square residents Dena Bloom and Robert Klyman. Appetizers and six different women-made wines were offered to attendees.
Author Susan Van Allen, whose business is leading women’s tour groups to Italy, was featured in one of the short films screened that evening. Van Allen told the story of Donatella Cinelli Colombini, who changed the face of wine-making in Italy by opening its first winery run solely by women.
After the film, Van Allen and Executive Director of Look What SHE Did!, Sylvia Hathaway Chavez, sat down for an in-person discussion about wines and why Van Allen chose to tell Colombini’s story for the film.
Julie Hébert, a Look What SHE Did! co-founder and current Artistic Director, away on location directing a TV show, created a short video message for the event. Hébert expressed her pride at the organization’s progress since its inception in 2015 and said the organization’s next step is to find distribution opportunities so more people can view the collection of more than 130 films.
In closing, Chavez noted the last few years have been difficult for all of us, particularly women, so it’s all the more important to continue making and distributing these inspirational films.
