Los Angeles’s Inaugural Weekend!

Mayor-Elect Karen Bass and CD5 Councilmember-elect Katy Young Yaroslavsky will both be sworn in tomorrow. Bass is shown here speaking at The Ebell of Los Angeles; Katy Yaroslavsky with her neighbor Marilouise Morgan and her daughters at the dedication of Marilouise Morgan Square.

In an historic weekend for the City of Los Angeles, Mayor-elect Karen Bass, the city’s first woman mayor, and CD5 City Councilmember-elect Katy Yaroslavsky, only the second woman to serve as the CD5 Councilmember, will be sworn in to office tomorrow at different public ceremonies.

Yaroslavsky will be sworn in at 10:00 a.m. at Pan Pacific Park. She follows in the footsteps of Rosalind Wyman, who served CD5 from 1953-1965. At age 22, Wyman, was the youngest council member ever seated, and the second woman elected to the Los Angeles city council. Yaroslavsky also follows her father-in-law Zev Yaroslavsky, who served CD5 from 1975-1995.

Yaroslavsky had originally planned her swearing-in event for 11:00 a.m. but changed the time to accommodate the Bass inauguration.

Mayor-elect Karen Bass, the first woman to lead the city, will be sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris. The historic inauguration will take place Sunday at L.A. Live’s Microsoft Theatre at 1 p.m.

Bass had originally planned to hold the ceremony outdoors at City Hall, but plans changed because of a rain forecast for Sunday. The campaign announced Thursday that it would be moving the event to the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live.

The ceremony is a public event scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. An rsvp is required. Click here to RSVP to attend.

CD13 Councilmember-elect Hugo Soto-Martinez told the Buzz he will be holding his swearing-in ceremony next week, on December 17 at noon, at Echo Park United Methodist Church. Look for our interview with Soto-Martinez on Monday.
