Larchmont Village residents on Lucerne Blvd., between Rosewood and Melrose Avenue, were without water for several hours last night while LADWP crews worked to repair leaks in a water line under Lucerne Blvd. The leaks followed a repair to a fire hydrant near Clinton and Lucerne that had been hit by a motorist.
According to local residents, LAFD quickly responded, turned off the water and stopped the geyser of water flooding the street. But when they turned the water back on, water began bubbling up and running down the 500 and 600 blocks of Lucerne.
LADWP workers arrived promptly and prepared to shut off the water to the homes on the two blocks. According to neighbors who were in constant communication with each other, sharing information, the workers instructed residents to fill their bathtubs with water in preparation of a water shut off that could possibly last a period of time, explained Clelia El Adl Clemens, a Lucerne Blvd. resident who shared these photos with the Buzz. Â The water outage only affected residents of Lucerne for approximately three hours, though it did force the closure of a beloved local restaurant, Osteria Mamma, apparently for the second time in recent months, due to water issues.
El Adl Clemens told the Buzz all the residents deeply appreciated the efficient efforts of all the city crews, who ended up working very late on a cold night.
