Metro Postpones La Brea Bus Priority Lanes Until January

In late November, we reported that Metro was going to begin its planned installation of bus priority lanes on La Brea Ave., between Sunset Blvd. and Olympic Blvd., in early December.  This week, however, Metro announced that “due to unforeseen circumstances with the contractor, most construction activities will now begin in early 2023.”

The Sunset-to-La Brea installation is the first phase of a two-stage project, with the second stage involving installation of the new bus lanes from Olympic Blvd. to Coliseum St.  No start dates have been announced yet for the second stage.

According to Metro, when the phase one installations do begin, “temporary lane closures will occur on La Brea Ave., between Sunset Bl. and Olympic Bl., as necessary. Parking may be temporarily prohibited on a block-by-block basis on one side of the street at a time. Temporary signage will offer detour information for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.”

For more information on the project, see our previous stories here and here, visit Metro’s project website at metro.net/labrea, call the project hotline at 213.922.4869, or contact Metro at [email protected].
