The controversial twin tower Millennium Hollywood project cleared a significant hurdle on Thursday, March 28 when the Los Angeles City Planning Commission unanimously passed the plan for two towers on Vine Street, adjacent to the Capitol Records building.
It’s a project that’s undergoing great debate – the two 55 story towers will certainly change the skyline and impact views. Additionally, there are concerns about how the increased density will impact parking and traffic on the already crowded Hollywood streets.
Both Councilmembers Tom La Bonge and Eric Garcetti oppose the project contending that it’s too big and that it would overwhelm the area as it has been approved by the LA City Planning Commission. Garcetti came out against the project during the Thursday LA City Planning Commission hearing.
The current focus of urban development in cities like ours is to concentrate it vertically around public transit and away from residential areas. The Millennium Hollywood towers aim to bring nearly 500 apartments/condos, a hotel, office space and retail. Â All a quick walk from the Metro station on Hollywood, just east of Vine.
The project heads to the LA City Council’s Planning and Land Use Committee and then on to a vote in the full City Council.
