Life on Larchmont is not quite the same with the door closed at the Larchmont Barber Shop. Situated in the heart of Larchmont Village, many consider Jerry Cottone and his nearly 50 year presence on the boulevard to be like one of the ventricles of the heart: pulling in people, conversation and community and pumping back out the clean shaves, clipped heads and contented minds of happy customers. The Larchmont Chronicle did a lovely piece on Jerry in 2010 that gives you the background story on the man behind the chair.
Jerry has posted a notice on his window bidding farewell to the Boulevard and all his loyal customers as he moves into retirement. We encourage fans and friends to send Jerry a note if so inclined  – you can drop it through the doorway mail slot at the barber shop, or mail it to Larchmont Barber Shop, 142 N. Wow, one of the last icons of the Blvd. closes shop. And who is left from the olden days?
This is a time to salute JERRY and great business. A wonderful guy, a great, already sorely-missed institution on Larchmont Boulevard. A bastion of common sense, decency and old world charm on a street that is too often becoming a haven for chain businesses, silly boutiques and ‘salons,’ hipsters, scenesters and me-me-me types. Take good care of yourself, Jerry. Thanks for the memories.
Jerry is a great guy and I loved getting my hair cut at his barbershop. Yes, one of the last old school shops on the boulevard. Hopefully the replacement business will serve the neighborhood more than outsiders, unlike Larchmont Bungalow.
