“Pies for Justice” Bake Sale Coming on Junteenth

Sometimes doing good can also taste good…really good.  And this Friday, June 19 (a.k.a. Junteenth – the date in 1865 that word reached Texas that all U.S. slaves had been freed) is one of those times.  To celebrate the holiday this year, “all your favorite pastry chefs, bakers, restaurant owners, farmers and foodies” from around Los Angeles will hold a Pies for Justice bake sale, in conjunction with the charitable organization Gather for Good, to support Black Lives Matter and Gathering for Justice.

According to the Pies for Justice website:

“Gather for Good believes that each and every one of us has the power to make our communities stronger when we work together. Now is the time to free our hearts of prejudice, stand up against injustice, and clear our institutions of inequality. This is not only for Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd but also the countless other black men and women before them.”

Here’s how it works:

  • The pie sale will go live on the Pies for Justice website on Junteenth — Friday, June 19, at 9 a.m.
  • The pie list and donation prices will be available until the pies are sold out (“first come, first served!”)
  • Each pie will have its own pickup time and location, depending on which chef it’s purchased from
  • After ordering a pie, you’ll receive an e-mail listing the pickup locations (so be sure to note which chef you order from)
  • Pies can be picked up at their specific locations on Saturday, June 20, between 12 and 3 p.m.

We’re hungry already…and can’t help noticing that this is also just in time for Father’s Day on Sunday.  (Dads love pie!)
