As has been widely reported, the City of Los Angeles has been required by the state of California to create more than 450,000 new units of housing by 2029. To do this, the city has been revising the Housing Element of its General Plan, known as the Plan to House LA, and is in the process of exploring sites that might be appropriate for new housing, and re-zoning various locations throughout the city (such as the northern part of Larchmont Blvd.) to allow for the construction of more new homes.
As part of this effort, the city recently launched a new Housing Element Rezoning website, and will be holding several public webinars this week to provide more information and collect feedback about the re-zoning project.

According to the city, the new website “is the information hub for the Citywide Program Strategies, featuring an Interactive Concept Explorer and Survey that details the different Program Strategies” for creating new housing. The strategies include:
- Expanding the Adaptive Reuse program citywide
- Updating the Affordable Housing Incentive Programs
- Incentivizing housing on Opportunity Corridors
- Creating Affordable Housing opportunities through the Affordable Housing Overlay
- Facilitating Missing Middle housing
- …and enhancing Process Streamlining.
The new website also “provides an interactive platform for feedback and dialog about the program,” along with recent news, upcoming events, housing resources, and an email signup to help stay in touch with the project.
Webinars
To help explain and gain public feedback on the re-zoning concepts and strategies the city will be using to determine locations for new housing, the Planning Department will be hosting three public webinars this week.
