Sunday Larchmont Farmers Market To Expand to Wednesday

The Larchmont Farmers Market, an institution on Sundays, is adding a additional day – Wednesdays from 1 p.m. – 5 pm. in the city parking lot, according to Melissa Farwell, manager of the Larchmont Farmers Market. Farwell told the Buzz she’s secured all the permits and is hoping to start the market on Wednesday, November 11, just in time for extra holiday shopping.

“Our hope is that people will still shop on Sunday because it’s such a tradition. We want the Wednesday market to enhance the Sunday market, but not compete with it,” said Farwell, who added that she’s been getting requests from customers for an extra day. The extra day also gives her a chance to add some new vendors who have been on waiting lists to come on Sunday, as well as to bring back some old vendors who were cut  from the Sunday market when it was scaled back due to the pandemic, to allow for more social distancing and to comply with city and county health department protocols.

Vendors like Rockenwagner Bread will now get a chance to come every week instead of being on rotation. And Dry Dock Fish is excited to gain an extra day because its products need to purchased fresh. Farwell said there will be farmers with fruits and vegetables, too, but overall the entire market will be smaller than the Sunday market, which is smaller than it was before the pandemic.

To secure the permits, Farwell had to get signatures from 51 percent of the merchants on the block. Many have signed on to support the market in the hopes the it will bring more shoppers to the street. Farwell is also offering local retailers a free booth in the market if they are interested. She’s also promised to make sure vendors don’t take up any of the angled street parking spots or have any booths on the street, to minimize the impact on parking availability. Currently the city parking lot is rarely full, so there seems to be plenty of parking. However, once the pandemic is over, Farwell said they would discontinue the market if merchants need the parking back.

Farwell is working to finalize all the vendors in time to launch the market on November 11 and can be reached by email for questions.
