The Nutcracker is reinvented this holiday season as the City Ballet of Los Angeles sets the famous Tchaikovsky ballet in a 1940’s swing-era production at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre. Yes that’s right – the City Ballet, known for its imaginative productions that combine traditional and contemporary dance – is going to be using the elegant Ebell setting to it’s fullest potential. The Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker will still be dancing, but the traditional tempo and choreography you’ve seen a million times will be re-imagined to bring new life to the Tchaikovsky piece so celebrated at Christmas.
The City Ballet of Los Angeles is a professional ballet company that reaches out to a wide assortment of communities across greater LA to nurture promising young dancers from diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds.
“The Nutcracker Swings” will be danced Friday, Dec 21st at 7 pm and Saturday, Dec 22nd for a matinee show at 1 pm.
