Kevin Proulx, the Tortoise Guy and local resident, told the Buzz he’s looking for volunteers to help him care for the many tortoises living at TortoiseLand. As we’ve reported over the years, Proulx operates his tortoise sanctuary as a labor of love. Recently he celebrated a renovation of TortoiseLand with murals and new spaces for the tortoises, like tortoise mountains, and becoming an official non-profit so he can accept grants and donations.
Right now, Proulx has 36 tortoises of various shapes and sizes who need to be cared for daily.
“I’d love to have volunteers help with general tortoise care, feeding, cleaning, interacting with them, etc. one hour a week, or daily, or…whatever works for their schedule,” Proulx told the Buzz. “I also need help with production and editing of tortoise videos, creating and posting social media content and help with our website if someone is interested in helping that way.”
Volunteers find it very rewarding helping out these amazing animals, who inspired Proulx to create TortoiseLand after he rescued Max, the 25-year-old African Sulcata Tortoise, who passed away last summer.
“Kevin, you are super amazing 🤩 It was amazing to see Tortoise land and the amount of Love you have for them OMG the World needs to see it 💯 also, to spend time with you and Pamela was precious,” said Michael, in a message to Proulx after volunteering recently.
If you’re interested in a cool way to help out these gentle creatures you would never normally get to see up close, you can reach Proulx by email at [email protected] You can also check out his social media and share and like his posts.
