For the past few months, actor Adam Tomei has been creating artfully delicious gourmet pizzas at his pizza pop-up within the swanky Lexington Social House on Vine, just north of Hollywood Blvd. What started as a hobby — tossing his handmade dough and topping it with an array of fresh ingredients for friends in his backyard — had turned into a popular weekly restaurant. Adam is even looking for a local space of his own.
Adam’s menu includes six ingenious concoctions priced between $14-$15. When I was there, he was also offering an additional “special.” Last Tuesday night, I indulged in two pies — the margarita and the special: an heirloom tomato/summer pie. Both were delicious.
The margarita pizza reminded of traditional pizzas I’ve had in Italy – juicy tomato sauce made from crushed organic plum tomatoes crowned with fresh basil and squares of melted buffalo mozzarella.
The Heirloom Tomato special, which luckily was available after Labor Day because the local tomatoes are still so perfect, had slices of organic heirlooms in place of sauce beneath a fragrant herb salad of parsley, fennel, tarragon, basil, mint chives and a dollop of marscapone. What a treat for the senses! It was almost too pretty to dig into. The flavor combination was perfect and the cheese gave it a creamy sensation that was truly sublime.
The hand made crusts were flaky and chewy with perfectly browned edges and crunchy air pockets. There wasn’t a crumb left on our plates.
This “Pop-up” differs from those I have visited in the past in that it exists within another restaurant. That allows you to order items from the Lexington Social House menu as well as drinks from their bar, which has a wide selection of yummy signature cocktails. The wait staff is shared, so you won’t find Adam running around serving while he cooks. There is also a very cool outdoor bar where you can enjoy your pizza while lounging by a fire pit.
For now, you can indulge in these wonderful pizzas every Tuesday night from 6-10pm. Call ahead to make reservations to be sure.
