Two CD 5 Candidate Forums Coming Up!

Both the Mid City West Neighborhood Council and the Hancock Park Homeowners Association will be holding CD 5 candidate forums this month.

Election season is starting to heat up (the city primary will be held on Tuesday, June 7), and two local organizations will be holding candidate forums this month for candidates running to replace the termed-out Paul Koretz as the new District 5 representative on the Los Angeles City Council.

The first of these events, held by the Mid City West Neighborhood Council, will be held via Zoom at 7:00 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, March 9.  According to the MCWNC’s announcement of the event:

In the City of LA, many of our laws, taxes, and policy positions are decided by a group of only 15 people. These 15 people decide how much money should go to the police, the steps we’re going to take to combat homelessness, how and whether to incentivize Hollywood studios and other businesses to work in LA — among many other important issues.

These 15 people make our our City Council and serve four-year terms. This year, many of them are up for reelection, or like Paul Koretz (who represents many people in our neighborhood), will be termed out.

The election will take place June 9th, with mail-in ballots going out two months from today, on May 9th. This local election will impact your day-to-day life, so why not equip yourself with the information you need to make an informed decision when you vote?

Tonight the Mid City West Neighborhood Council hosts a LIVE forum with all of the candidates running to represent Council District 5 on our City Council.

The event is free and open to the public.  To join the meeting at 7 p.m., go to https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88166423553  For more information, contact [email protected].  And if you can’t make to the live session, but would still like to watch the conversation, a recording will be posted later on the MCWNC website.

Also coming up later this month, on March 21 at 7 p.m., and also via Zoom, the Hancock Park Homeowners Association will host another CD 5 candidate forum, featuring three of the nine candidates currently running for the position: Jimmy Biblarz, Katy Young Yaroslavsky, and Sam Yebri.

This event, too, is free and open to the public…and you can register in advance at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_M5QQsceARzGFEfgTaDde5A

Please note that because of this year’s city council redistricting process, you may now be represented by a different city council district than in our last election cycle.  Most of our Greater Wilshire area now lies within the boundaries of either CD 5 or CD 13.  To find out which district you’ll be voting in this year, go to http://www.neighborhoodinfo.lacity.org and enter your address.
