A lucky group of foodies gathered over the weekend for the soft opening of  VernettiSteve and Joanna Vernetti’s eponymous Italian-American restaurant in Larchmont Village.  The restaurant was packed with a mixture of neighbors, Vernetti friends and long-time patrons  including Chef Mark Peel and his writer/chef wife Daphne Brogdon, Hollywoodland Realty owner Patti Carroll and her husband Mark; Rossmore neighbors Bernie and Mary Jaworski; and screenwriter/producer Robin Bissell and Krista Bissell. The restaurant was buzzing with chatter as patrons shared plates discussing each others favorite menu items.

Officially opening today, Chef Steve Vernetti has expanded his original menu to feature both traditional and inventive dishes made with seasonal ingredients sourced from local purveyors and family farms. The clean, more modern design aesthetic of the new space elevates the dinning experience, significantly boosting the restaurant ethos on Larchmont for those seeking really great food in a cool, well-designed space.

The Vernettis, who also live in the neighborhood, bought Larchmont’s beloved Italian restaurant, Girasole, in fall 2013, worked closely with its former owner during the transition, and have maintained the core kitchen and wait staff that made the restaurant such a special place. Consulting with the city and the neighborhood, the Vernettis won the approval of both for the expansion and remodel of the restaurant to include a larger, updated kitchen, and two ADA-compliant bathrooms all conforming to the special zoning conditions on Larchmont Blvd.

“To own a restaurant right here in Larchmont Village, in the same neighborhood where we are raising our family, is pretty amazing,” said Chef Steve Vernetti. “Serving homemade pastas and choice cuts of meat and seafood, seasonal vegetables and baked goods, and seeing all that happens around a table set with a well prepared meal in a lovely setting is a dream come true.”

They closed for remodel and redesign in September 2014.  Joanna Vernetti collaborated with designer David Thompson, Assembledge+ on the restaurant’s design and sourced all the interior materials and fixtures from various artisans and fabricators to evoke a modernized European bistro aesthetic.

Vernetti’s tables and bar top are made locally out of reclaimed wood; hardware and light fixtures are brass; an expansive, starphire glass storefront and hanging interior mirrors allow patrons to better enjoy the view of Larchmont Boulevard, sunshine to stream in, and details of the interior to pop. The restaurant seats 45 in a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere.
