Just in time for this weekend’s royal wedding, producer and Windsor Square resident Michele Weiss completed her movie on the romance of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for the Lifetime television network. This is the third movie Weiss and her producing partner, Meredith Finn, have completed for the network.
“This time, they came to us,” explained Weiss. “On the day the engagement was announced, Lifetime assembled a team and we got started so we could complete the movie in time.” The movie ” Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance,” aired Sunday and is generating “tremendous buzz,” according to Weiss.
Aside from catching grief about the actor cast as Prince William, Weiss told the Buzz that social media loves the movie. It won’t disappoint the typical Lifetime viewer, but it also doesn’t shy away from trying to address the racial implications of the upcoming royal marriage.
Weiss credits the actor,s who are very good and believable — it takes a moment to realize they are not actually Markle and Prince Harry when you see the montage of clips at the end of the movie. Weiss also credits the writers for the film’s success. Scarlett Lacey, also a staff writer on MTV’s “The Royals,” has a historical connection. Her father, Robert Lacey, is a well- known British historian and biographer, who served as a consultant on the Netflix series “The Crown.” The movie even has several tongue in cheek references to that show.
“We wanted to make a somewhat thought provoking movie, and it feels like we were successful,” said Weiss. And in record time. The real-life Meghan and Harry are schedule to get married on Saturday, May 19. For viewers in the U.K., it starts at 12 p.m. But for those in the U.S., expect a wakeup call at 7 a.m. EDT, or 4 a.m. PDT.
The movie which aired last Sunday, can be found on Lifetime.com
