Hancock Park’s John Burroughs Middle School Sends Students to College for the Day

The busses went around the block, loading up John Burroughs 8th graders for trips to college campuses on Monday.
A large group of JB students chose to visit Cal State Long Beach.

The John Burroughs Middle School “College Awareness 2012” went off without a hitch this week even though it involved moving some 620 8th grade students via 14 yellow busses to campuses around Southern California.

According to Dr. Steve Martinez, Principal of John Burroughs Middle School, or “JB” as most fondly refer to it, the school “…believes in promoting a college-bound culture for all students. Aligned with our school vision and college awareness month, we sent approximately 620 8th grade students on a field trip to a local University.”

Students got to pick which university they would like to visit for the day, and included were visits to UCLA, USC, UCIrvine and Cal State Long Beach. For many of the students, it was the first time they visited a college campus. JB is expected to have other activities throughout the month that focus on awareness of college education.

USC was also a popular choice for many of the middle schoolers during college awareness month at John Burroughs.
