Levitated Mass – Pictures

The rock draws a crowd

I have to admit that I have been a bit of a skeptic about the idea of a big rock as art…a doubter, but an engaged one. I attended the 3am arrival of the rock at LACMA earlier in the year. I’ve peeked over the fence at LACMA to check out the site. And I scrambled over to LACMA on Sunday morning – getting there as close as possible to the 11a unveiling, hoping I could sneak a few pictures and head off to do something with the family.

And then I saw it and I was struck…what an inspiring piece of art! A grand vision, perfectly executed and beautifully pulling in doubters like myself along the way.

It was a privilege to be there for the ribbon cutting…it felt like something very special was happening for our City. The space created for the rock appears full of potential and this boulder really has transformed into what will quickly become an iconic symbol of LA.

I can’t wait to go back when no one is there:)

Check out this video from Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky’s team…really captures the magnitude of the day!
