Excerpt from Councilman LaBonge’s motion CF# 12-0010-S51 :
During 2012 there has been a sharp increase in the number of thefts of copper wire in Council District 4. These thefts have been from City-owned street lights and have created public safety issues for drivers, pedestrians, and local residents. The Bureau of Street Lighting reports that currently there are 27 open cases of copper wire theft in Council District 4, which is 35% of the citywide total. The Bureau of Street Lighting is working with the Los Angeles Police Department to ensure that the impacted neighborhoods remain safe and that residents can be aware of suspicious activity. In addition to these efforts, a reward offer may assist investigators in finding the person(s) responsible for this wave of thefts. The person or persons responsible for these crimes represent an ongoing threat to the safety of the people of Los Angeles; therefore it is appropriate for the City of Los Angeles to offer a reward for information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the copper wire thefts in Council District 4. I THEREFORE MOVE that by adoption of this Motion, the City Council provide an offer of reward for information leading to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the series of copper wire thefts from City-owned property in Council District 4, occurring from January 1, 2012 through December 14, 2012.Related Posts:
