LAPD alerted neighbors to a gang shooting that occurred Tuesday, May 29 at Queen Anne Recreation Center. Three people were shot and all are recovering from their wounds.
LAPD Wilshire Division Senior Lead Officer Ruben Gonzalez informed area residents of the following:
“At approximately 7:00p Tuesday evening, victim-1 (Gang Member) was at Queen Anne park near the basketball courts talking with a group of friends. He was approached by the suspect (Male, Black, 603, 200 lbs, in his 20s, wearing a black Hoodie, white shirt, and dark pants). The suspect produced a handgun and shot at the victim several times striking him in the abdomen. The suspect then fled the park possibly fleeing in a waiting vehicle. Unfortunately, two additional victims, who were enjoying the park, were struck by stray gunfire. One victim was shot in the leg the other received a graze wound. All victim’s were transported to the hospital and treated for their injuries. All survived. Â This shooting is gang related and is being a investigated by Wilshire Division gang detectives. Â Extra patrol is already, and will continue, to be conducted near and around the park.” ÂQueen Anne Park has become a popular destination for area families as the fields are used by both Wilshire Sports Little League and Wilshire Softball. It really is a great facility and we expect that both the community and LAPD will rise to the challenge of securing the grounds. This incident serves as a strong reminder that your children should not be left unsupervised at this or any city park.
NOTE: LAPD has announced they will hold a public meeting on Friday, June 1 at 6 pm at Queen Anne Park to share information on this event and discuss crime with area residents. Please attend if you can. CD 10 and the Parks Department will be present.
