Wilshire Boulevard Road Relief

Wilshire-Blvd-repaving

The inky strips of blacktop on Wilshire Blvd are a welcome relief to local drivers in the Miracle Mile area as the repaving of Wilshire continues.

As reported earlier, Councilman Tom LaBonge secured funding to repave just the outermost curb-side lanes of Wilshire between Crenshaw and Fairfax, leaving the interior lanes to be repaved after subway construction comes through the area. The 16 foot wide strips essentially cover the entire curb lane as well as a good portion of the middle lane, making one Buzz reader note with delight that “you can finally drive along Wilshire without having your teeth rattle.”

The east-bound curb lane is completed along the full route; the west-bound curb lane has a new smooth feel from Crenshaw to Rimpau. Wilshire will not be closed this weekend for the final installment of paving (Rimpau to Fairfax) due to the 405 closure and the Herbalife Los Angeles Triathlon on Sunday that will close portions of Fairfax Ave and Olympic Bl. and cause congestion in our area.

A big thank you to Council District 4 and Tom LaBonge for giving us this road relief.

UPDATE: 9/28/12 3 pm. The Bureau of Street Services reports that the current phase of repaving on Wilshire Blvd will be completed by October 7, 2012.
