We just had to share this post from our New York namesake, or a least we think it’s our namesake. (There’s only urban legend and guessing, no proof.)
According to theLoop.com, an online news site covering Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Lower Westchester communities in New York, planning is underway for outdoor dining this winter.
“Larchmont Mayor Lorraine Walsh said, “All around the Village there will be various structures, from igloos and greenhouses to tents and wooden enclosures. It will be a winter wonderland!”
It may be a few weeks before we see the efforts of One Larchmont and Larchmont Nurseries, who are planning a complicated scenario. One Larchmont is providing igloos and greenhouses, helping arrange for a village-wide cleaning service and test-marketing some wooden barriers and platforms which may be used for al fresco going forward.
Larchmont Nurseries will be switching the greenery from summer to winter-appropriate plants.

That beautiful foliage on Larchmont Avenue, used to create outdoor dining space over the warmer months, could be yours.
“Larchmont al Fresco’s” foliage will have to be dismantled for the winter.
Larchmont Nurseries is offering the Majesty Palms for $250 each and the Hibiscus plants for free.
The proceeds will go to continued beautification of the business districts.
Happily, igloos are not required here in Los Angeles’ Larchmont. Thanks to our mild weather, the city’s Al Fresco dining program makes a lot more sense in LA in November than it does in New York. As a result, the Mayor has extended the L.A. Al Fresco program until December 31, 2020. Additional extensions will be granted throughout the duration of the Mayor’s Safer L.A. Order at no cost and with no limit on renewals, according to the Mayor’s website.
Speaking of weather, a week ago Saturday’s brief rain showers brought a rainbow, nearly a double rainbow, to Larchmont. Thanks to Le Petite Greek’s Dimitris Houndalas for allowing us to reprise the rainbow in his photo below.
