Two Larchmont eateries, Café Gratitude and Sam’s Bagels, were recently singled out by local food experts.
Just in time for warmer days and nights, EaterLA has updated its guide to great outdoor dining in Los Angeles. Larchmont’s Café Gratitude was named for its patio, “where diners can dig into a homemade veggie burger or a macriobiotic bowl with sea vegetables. Wash it down with a freshly made glass of juice.”
The “11 Best Bagels In Los Angeles,” complied by Danny Jenson for LAist, named Sam’s Bagels as his top choice when hanging around Larchmont Village.
This cute mom-and-pop shop does bagels right: they’re fresh plumpers with a nice chewiness and crispy exterior. Plus, they have a variety of different types of bagels—from jalapeño to cinnamon raisin and sun-dried tomato—and different kinds of schmears, including veggie and chive cream cheeses. If you’d like an extra oomph to your bagel, they have plenty of sandwich options like a turkey, bacon avocado combo or lox. Just remember to be patient when you’re in line because this place is oftentimes packed. Some things are worth waiting for. — Jean Trinh
In other local food news, The Larchmont is now serving brunch in celebration of its 3-year anniversary and to feature the work of new chef Michael Bryant. Bryant, formerly of The Churchill and Palihouse Hotel has prepared a brunch menu that features traditional favorites like eggs benedict with crab cake, pork pastrami or smoked salmon, served with avocado, bibb lettuce, miche, roasted chill hollandaise and potato hash. If eggs are not your thing, there’s a Moroccan rock shrimp frittata or flat iron steak all paired with a brunch cocktail menu, including The Larchmont Pimm’s Cup featuring Pimm’s Liqueur of Great Britain, All Natural Fever Tree Ginger Beer, cucumber, mint and a splash of fresh orange and lemon juice, served on “Ice Block.”
