Big Sunday at Wilshire Crest School

The Month of Big Sundays is almost over (it runs through Wednesday, May 31), but there are a few final events still popping up.  One took place yesterday at Wilshire Crest Elementary School, where about 70 volunteers cleared a planting field in the school garden, harvested seeds and made decorative seed packets, built wood benches for the preschool playground, enjoyed music (and a bit of spontaneous line dancing) with DJ Milton Gaines (a Wilshire Crest alumnus), and then sat down for a “Long Table” community lunch, during which participants shared stories of special foods, food traditions, and connections to gardens and food production from their family histories.  Here are some scenes from the lovely day of pitching in and giving back to the community.
