Casa Libre/Freedom House, the non-profit emergency shelter and transitional living program serving homeless boys 12-17 years of age is holding a fundraiser this weekend that celebrates artistic delight as they feature works from more than a dozen local and international artists, including Ozomatli, Judy Baca, Ricardo Bustamante, as well as one of their own, Josue Joel Hidalgo.

Select artwork will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going directly to benefit Casa Libre. Some of the artists are from our Greater Wilshire neighborhood – including local milliner Corina Haywood. Live music, raffles, and complimentary hors d’oeuvres will accompany the event, so bring a friend and help support an amazing cause.

The fundraiser takes place at the Casa Libre/Freedom House a 10,000 square foot Art Nouveau Gothic Revival Style house in the Pico Union area of Los Angeles. The house was built in 1901 and was designed by architect John B. Parkinson, who also designed the LA Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles City Hall and Union Station. It was designated as a Historical Cultural Monument in 1979.

Casa Libre services include all of the basic necessities along with case management, health screenings, educational placement, family reunification and legal services for undocumented and unaccompanied immigrant children, mainly from Latin America.

Sounds like a fun night for a good cause! Ozomatli playing at this historical home, coupled with local artists and good food – a win-win opportunity to be generous.
