CD13 Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez is hosting a Tenant Resource Fair this Saturday, June 29, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Bresee FamilySource Center at 184 S. Bimini Place, Los Angeles, CA 90004 near Third Street and Vermont Avenue.
Topics covered will include:
- Housing support
- Eviction protection
- Financial planning workshops
- Connections to benefit programs
The event is free and will be conducted in Spanish and English.
“We know that the majority of people in Los Angeles are renters, and one of the most common reasons we hear for why people fall into homelessness is because they were not able to afford their rent,” a spokesman from CD13 told the Buzz. “That’s why our office is doing all that we can to help renters receive the resources they need to stay in their homes.”
Recently, we have met with more tenants who are facing eviction because their older rent-stabilized housing is being torn down and replaced with new housing permitted by numerous state and local housing programs designed to incentivize property owners to build more housing. Unfortunately, this new housing is coming at the expense of older, sometimes historic, homes and apartments.
