Our cup does runneth over.
Walking around my block seeing what beauty the season has brought forth on tree branches, bushes and peeking out of the ground there is a parallel playing out in the creative arts that are in our city.

The Getty Museum has an amazing exhibition of British photographer Tim Walker:
Tim Walker WONDERFUL THINGS.
From knock out gorgeous to extremely edgy, eccentric and sophisticated his work is known and admired internationally. Walker considers art museums sources of inspiration and last year The Getty commissioned him to do a series of photographs inspired by the museum’s collection. He was also inspired by the Victoria and Albert Museum. Walker said “looking at the past gives me nourishment.”

Moving down the road a bit is one of the dark stories in American history at the Skirball Cultural Center. BLACKLIST: The Hollywood Red Scare.

It shows the impact it had at the time and makes you think of our current contemporary civil liberties and propaganda. Walking through the the exhibit you sense the fear that was unleashed by prying into peoples lives. It shows the Hollywood Ten who refused to answer certain questions and were sentenced to a year in prison.
There is another exhibition at the Skirball that is about a Ukrainian artist Peter Krasnow: Breathing Joy and Light who moved into our neighborhood Atwater Village and found sunshine and colors in his life. His paintings show the optimism he found in Southern California. Krasnow lived there for over 50 years. His work was included in the exhibit that launched MOCA.

Driving across town – which admittedly is not easy – at the Music Center in The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the LA Opera is presenting “Otello,” Verdi’s masterpiece of transforming Shakespeare’s play of a hero’s decent into jealousy as he destroys everything he holds dear. James Conlon conducts the powerhouse cast led by Artist in Residence Russell Thomas as Otello. It has everything you expect in an opera, great music, drama, love, betrayal and murder!

At the Ahmanson Theater in the Music Center there is a dance program – MOMIX’s ‘Alice.’ It is the dance company’s take on Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The choreography is by the founder Moses Pendleton. The company does amazing feats with their bodies and your minds.
