Dirty Cars and Black Coffee at Buck Mason Saturday Morning

If you’re on Larchmont this Saturday morning, you might notice a number of classic European sports cars parked near Buck Mason. The men’s clothing shop has invited customers to “spend the morning kicking some tires and spinning tales,” as well as enjoying some Groundwork coffee and Trejo’s donuts.

Not being a car person, I had to ask, “What’s a “dirty” car – does it just need a car wash?”

Buck Mason’s head of marketing laughed, then explained the term refers to a car that’s really cool but not perfect.

“Maybe it’s a 1972 Porsche 911 that’s just a little rough around the edges.  It’s a classic, but it’s not perfect,” explained Jim Davis, who runs the marketing operation for Buck Mason. The “dirty” car idea fits with the ethos of the company, which offers classically styled, comfortable clothing for an easy living lifestyle. Classic sports cars are often featured on their marketing campaigns.

“We’ve invited our neighborhood customers and our local brand partners to spend the morning with us,” said Davis. He’s not expecting a huge crowd. The company has invited local customers and some of the car collectors they’ve known for years. But everyone is welcome to stop by for coffee and donuts, whether you’re a car enthusiast or not.

According to Davis, the car event started because one of the Buck Mason founders loves classic sports cars. You might remember the classic Alfa Romeo that was parked in the store. Like so many gatherings, last year’s event was cancelled because of COVID – but this year, they’re going ahead and hope to host some fun cars and old friends.  They’re even covering the parking for anyone who wants to bring their own car.
